Itamar Friedman — Person. role: CEO, QodoAI

Itamar Friedman, CEO of QodoAI, argues that the quality of AI-generated code depends 80% on context. That claim organizes both of the notes where he appears, and it explains why he keeps coming back as a reference point on what happens after code generation.

In "The State of AI Code Quality: Hype vs. Reality" (23 November 2025), Friedman describes a productivity ceiling. Generation tools reach 80-90% of developers, and the second-order effects follow: pull request volume up 97%, review time up 90%, security incidents up 300% according to some reports, and 67% of developers worried about the quality and maintainability of what gets produced. His prescription moves the investment downstream, toward agent-run code review, a context engine drawing on git history, tickets, team standards and related files, and automated Quality Gates.

The Qodo survey of 609 developers published on 11 June 2025 supplies the numbers behind that position. Context, not hallucination, is the top-ranked factor: 65% of respondents report the AI missing relevant context during refactoring, more often than they report hallucinations. Only 3.8% of developers currently sit inside what the report calls the Confidence Flywheel, where context-rich suggestions reduce errors and better examples feed back in.

The tension Friedman leaves open is trust: 75% of developers hesitate to merge AI code without manual verification even when hallucination rates are low.
