Cobus Greyling

Cobus Greyling, Chief Evangelist at Kore.ai, appears in three notes published between October 2025 and March 2026, each tracking the same argument from a different angle: a layer of the developer stack collapses, and the collapse is economic before it is technical.

The March 2026 piece is the most structural. Greyling decomposes an IDE into five functions (file navigation, code editing, syntax awareness, build/run/debug, version control) and argues an agent performs each through the CLI without a visual interface. The inversion he draws is the interesting part: the IDE was built to compensate for human cognitive limits, difficulty parsing raw text, the need for spatial navigation, the inability to hold a full call stack in working memory. An agent has none of those constraints. Its context window is its working memory. He names four cases where the IDE survives anyway: visual output, architectural refactoring, onboarding to an unfamiliar codebase, and compliance workflows.

His November 2025 note places software in the same cost-collapse lineage as storage, CPUs, and bandwidth, and cites an ADP Research chart showing US software developer employment declining since 2018. But he refuses the clean story, noting that 95% of enterprise generative AI pilots fail the move to production on security and governance gaps. "AI might democratise the edges, but the core stays gated."

The October 2025 NVIDIA analysis follows the same shape applied to a vendor: open models lower the barrier to experimentation while optimizing for one company's hardware.
