Loop Engineering

Loop Engineering — Methodology. definition: Design a system that improves with every run via 5-part loops (trigger, action, proof, memory, stop) · status: Viral buzzphrase (Cherny / Steinberger mentions)

The Lushbinary agency's guide of 9 June 2026 credits Addy Osmani (Google) with popularizing Loop Engineering, building on Peter Steinberger ("design loops that prompt your agents") and on Boris Cherny of Claude Code, who argues for writing loops rather than prompting. The shift it describes is one of position: the developer stops being the primary prompter and becomes the designer of an outer loop that discovers work, distributes it, validates results, documents them and decides what comes next. Lushbinary places this as the third layer of a stack, prompt then Context Engineering then loop, and reads Geoffrey Huntley's Ralph technique (a while loop, the same prompt, fresh context at every iteration, durable state in PLAN.md and STATUS.md) as its pre-terminological validation.

Shubham Saboo transposed the idea to product management on 21 June 2026, arguing that the PM's next decisive skill is not prompt engineering. His loop has five parts: trigger, action, proof, memory, stop condition. He treats the last as the most critical, since many systems fail for want of a clean exit. The problem he names is drift: CLAUDE.md lengthens, the checklist swells, eval criteria change without a trace, and a month later the agent "seems worse" although the model has not regressed.

By 26 June 2026 Andrew Ng was recording the term's virality in The Batch, crediting Cherny and Steinberger. Lushbinary's caution stands alongside it: verification stays human, and understanding debt accelerates as the loops get faster.
