OpenClaw — Technology. category: 24/7 persistent AI agent · category: State-of-the-art agent harness · description: Project (cited by Shipper) — 44,469 PRs in May 2026 vs Kubernetes 5,200 PRs over all of 2022 — volumetric proof of *"more work, not less"* · role: Personal agent cited by Stripe as an example beneficiary of the Link wallet for agents; unelaborated mention in the article

OpenClaw generated 44,469 pull requests in May 2026, a figure Dan Shipper sets against Kubernetes and its 5,200 PRs across all of 2022. In "After Automation", published 21 May 2026 on every.to, that comparison carries the essay's central claim: AI agents produce more work for humans, not less. The volume is the evidence, and OpenClaw supplies it.

Created by «Peter Steinberger», the project turns up in four separate discussions, each treating it as a different kind of example. Andrew Ng, in The Batch issue 359, names Steinberger alongside Boris Cherny as the people who popularized «Loop Engineering». Tony Seale lists OpenClaw with «Claude Code», Codex and Hermes as the harness paradigm that practitioners moved to once orchestration frameworks like LangGraph and CrewAI stopped earning their scaffolding. Aaron Levie counts it among the agents that extended the coding-agent architecture to general knowledge work, singling out its 24/7 persistent environment.

Stripe's April 2026 announcement of the «Link wallet for agents» cites OpenClaw as a personal agent that would benefit, without further comment.

What the sources agree on is narrower than what each one claims. OpenClaw is invoked as proof of throughput, as an instance of a design pattern, as a persistent runtime, and as a payment beneficiary. No source describes what it actually does. Its name functions as a shorthand that four different arguments each fill with their own meaning.
