LangGraph — Technology. category: Agent orchestration framework · category: LangChain agent orchestration framework · role: Open source framework demonstrating disposable workers + durable/inspectable/portable state (checkpointing, human interruptions, crash recovery)

LangGraph is LangChain's agent orchestration framework, and the writing about it between October 2025 and July 2026 treats it less as a tool under evaluation than as a marker of where the orchestration layer currently sits.

Antoine Habert, drawing on two years of agent deployment in a European fintech, groups LangGraph with CrewAI and AutoGen in the 2024 framework proliferation, then argues that reasoning transparency, structured organizational memory, genuine cognitive collaboration between agents and adaptive supervision stayed underdeveloped while those frameworks multiplied: orchestration was available, the architectural foundations were not. Tony Seale puts LangGraph in the same list (CrewAI, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, OpenAI Agents SDK, AWS Bedrock, Google ADK) and sets it against the model-in-harness paradigm leading practitioners moved to, quoting Anthropic to the effect that every harness component encodes an assumption about what the model cannot do alone, and that such assumptions age fast. Cobus Greyling reads the same movement as a layer collapse: natural-language prompts in a CLAUDE.md file taking the place of frameworks like LangGraph or CrewAI.

Janakiram MSV uses it for something else. LangGraph demonstrates disposable workers with durable, inspectable, portable state (checkpointing, human interruption, recovery after a crash), and it demonstrates this in open source. Its control plane lives in LangSmith, a commercial product. That split names the open question about the agent stack: the primitives are open, the lifecycle is not.
