Devin
Devin — Technology. category: Autonomous coding agent
Devin appears in a16z's October 2025 mapping of what Guido Appenzeller and Yoko Li call the trillion dollar AI software development stack, and again on Anthropic's «Powered by Claude» page, listed alongside Cursor, Replit, Factory, Qodo and Zed as a partner building on «Claude». The typed attribute here is terse, an autonomous coding agent, and the graph position is what carries the information: Devin consumes «Claude» as its model layer, and «Linear» reaches back toward it from the issue-tracking side.
That second edge is the one worth pausing on. Linear's own note describes an AI-first tracker built around intelligent triage, duplicate detection and priority recommendations, with a design philosophy that keeps humans deciding while the system suggests. Devin sits at the other end of that spectrum, doing the work rather than routing it. The two showing up connected sketches the pipeline a16z describes, planning and code generation and review as separate purchasable layers rather than one product.
Appenzeller and Li argue the developer becomes an orchestrator of agent teams, concentrating on system design and supervision instead of line-by-line code. Devin is one of the things being orchestrated in that picture. Anthropic's partner page groups it under autonomous software engineering, a category label that assumes an outcome the a16z piece treats as a market bet rather than a settled fact. Whether the orchestration layer or the agent itself captures the value is left open in both.
