Stripe co-authored the Agentic Commerce Protocol with OpenAI in September 2025, and on 29 April 2026 Dan Hill, Product Manager Link Consumer Product, shipped the Link wallet for agents on top of Issuing for agents. His own framing conceded the gap: machine payments protocols are still gaining adoption, so agents have to work with the payment options sellers and consumers use today. The author of the machine-native protocol also holds the card rails it claims to replace, and Link counts more than 200 million consumers. Every spend request still needs a human approval before the credential reaches the agent.

A second line runs through the same name. Alistair Gray described Minions, Stripe's one-shot coding agents, merging more than 1,000 pull requests a week in February 2026, then more than 1,300 ten days later. They run on ephemeral devboxes, a fork of Block's goose, and blueprints that alternate deterministic nodes with LLM loops. Rules files are standardized on format Cursor (règles) with automatic sync to Claude Code; tooling runs through Toolshed, an MCP server exposing around 500 tools; pre-push lint hooks and a ceiling of two CI cycles against more than 3 million tests carry the feedback. The codebase is hundreds of millions of lines, mostly Ruby under Sorbet.

Anthropic's June 2026 launch relayed Stripe reporting that Claude Fable 5 migrated a 50 million line Ruby codebase in one day, against two months for a team. Bill Staples read the same experiments differently: they show where the next constraints reappear, in environment, CI, review and governance.
